Kiara 5th in Finistère

Mayenne Monbana My Pie took part in another series of races in Brittany this weekend. Whether in breakaways or on the attack, the French ProTeam riders showed the team’s colours and secured some solid results.

At the Tout Commence en Finistère Ladies Classic, Kiara Lylyk was able to make her mark. Part of a breakaway that went clear with 40 kilometres to go, the Canadian followed the key moves and was able to fight for the win in the sprint. She eventually crossed the finish line in 5th place.

On Sunday, the Pointe du Raz Ladies Classic was held on a course featuring numerous typically Breton gravel and dirt roads. The Mayenne Monbana My Pie riders were at the front for much of the race, but were ultimately unable to stay with the leading group. Justine Gegu and Natalie Quinn finished 23rd and 26th respectively.

Franck Renimel, sport director : “On Saturday, it was absolutely essential to have a rider up front if we had a Visma, UAE or FDJ rider in the breakaway. When those three riders went up the road, we had to react immediately, and that’s exactly what they managed to do through Kiara. She made a huge effort, and it’s a great satisfaction to see her make it across so strongly, because it was far from easy. For us, it was a perfect situation because there was no real organisation behind the breakaway. We reached the sprint with Kiara and, considering all the efforts she had already made and the level of the riders she was up against, she managed to take an impressive and very satisfying 5th place. As for today’s race (Sunday), we knew it was important to approach the gravel sections at the front, both to avoid getting caught up in crashes and to be able to choose the best lines. Natalie and Justine found themselves in the main peloton, but they narrowly missed the right group in the finale. It came down to pure legs. That’s a slight disappointment because I think we had the opportunity to have a rider in the front group.”
