volta a Portugal : Mayenne Came Close every day

The Volta a Portugal came to an end this Sunday. Team Mayenne Monbana My Pie performed quite well throughout the stage race despite the oppressive heat. The riders secured several strong placings, although they were unable to convert them into a stage victory. Kiara Lylyk wore the white jersey of best young rider early in the race by inheritance, giving valuable visibility to the French ProTeam.

Jean-Christophe Barbotin, team manager : "We’re still searching for that victory, and we didn’t manage to get it. We keep finishing 4th, 7th, or 9th. We could have had it today (Sunday) because Kiara was really well positioned by Natalie, but there was a huge crash in the final, which completely disrupted the front of the peloton. There wasn’t really a proper sprint and, on our side, we were delayed by the crash. What I’ll remember from the Tour of Portugal is the very good team spirit, the solidarity among the girls, some bad luck, but overall we came through it well. We have no injuries. To come and win a race like this, you still need experience, and we had quite a few neo-pro riders at the start, with Léa, Justine and Alice for example, even if they had already experienced some UCI races during the first part of the season. Now it’s time to focus on preparation for the Tour de France."
