After a week strongly animated by the Mayenne Monbana My Pie team, it was time for the favourites of the women’s Tour of Spain to reveal themselves. In the middle of the battle for the final general classification, Karolina Perekitko looked the most comfortable, finishing 23rd in the final stage.
The last day of this La Vuelta Femenina ended atop the Alto de l'Angliru — a mythical place in cycling, a climb feared by every rider, and the perfect setting for the favourites for overall victory to go head-to-head. After a very fast opening part of the stage, the best riders naturally broke away at the front during the final climb. For Mayenne Monbana My Pie, team leader Karolina Perekitko crossed the line in 23rd place, narrowly missing the Top 20 target. In the overall standings, she finished 26th after losing more than a minute during the early stages of the race. The week ends with a sense of pride: competing at the highest level in the world and proudly carrying the colours of Mayenne Monbana My Pie.
Karolina Perekitko. “The stage looked hard on paper, and it was hard out on the road as well. The pace was very high on the first climb of the day, before the peloton slowed down afterwards. I felt better today (Saturday). I really gave everything I had on the final climb to the Angliru. I’m proud of the whole team.”
