Kreiz Breizh Elites : Lilou already on the attack!

The time has come for Mayenne Monbana My Pie to return to competition. This Thursday, the team lined up for the Kreiz Breizh Elites, its first race since the end of the Tour de France Femmes. On this occasion, the French ProTeam was active at the front of the race, notably thanks to its stagiaire Lilou Jauvin.

Racing in a professional event for the first time — and wearing the Mayenne Monbana My Pie jersey — the 17-year-old rider has already made her mark. Part of the day’s breakaway, Lilou took advantage of this high-level experience to collect points at the top of the various climbs on the Breton course. Her efforts paid off as she won the Queen of the Mountains classification. A first podium in her very first professional race!

In the final standings, Fiona Mangan was Mayenne Monbana My Pie’s best-placed rider, finishing 21st. On Saturday, the team will line up at the start of the Classic Lorient Agglomération, a WorldTour race featuring an even stronger field.

Lilou Jauvin : “It was my first race at this level, racing in a professional peloton. My teammates gave me a lot of confidence. The goal was to try to get into a breakaway and gain an advantage if possible. I took the opportunity to go for the intermediate classifications. This podium is a great surprise and a great achievement for me! Without Justine’s help over the last two laps, it wouldn’t have been possible, and I’m very grateful to her! I’m happy with this first race and I can’t wait to race again with this great team. I’m very grateful to the team and its manager, Jean-Christophe Barbotin, for allowing me to experience these intense moments at such a young age.”

Franck Renimel, sport director : “Our initial goal was to get into the breakaway, particularly with Lilou. We wanted to keep our key riders — Fiona, Marine and Natalie — for the finish. We knew the race would be decided on the final circuit. We found ourselves up front from the start with Lilou’s breakaway. After that, the instruction was to go for the Queen of the Mountains points, as that was the best result we could realistically aim for. In any case, we knew the breakaway wouldn’t make it to the finish and would be caught as we approached the final circuit. That’s exactly what happened. It’s very satisfying to see a stagiaire already capable of fully carrying out the role we had given her. When I told her to get into the breakaways, she was both surprised and amazed, especially because she hadn’t expected to be given that task. In the end, she did it brilliantly, which is a great source of satisfaction for us.”
