The Mayenne Monbana My Pie team continues to ride a great wave during this women’s Tour of Spain. After already showing themselves at the front of the race on several occasions throughout the event, the French ProTeam once again went on the attack with Marine Allione.

The fighting spirit of Mayenne Monbana My Pie was once again on display this Friday during Stage 6 of La Vuelta Femenina. Already represented in most of the breakaways since the start of the race, the leading group once again featured a rider from the Mayenne-based squad. Marine Allione, who wore the Queen of the Mountains jersey on Thursday, went back on the attack. Her teammate Alice Coutinho, the new leader of the mountain classification, stayed protected in the peloton after her breakaway effort the day before.

In the end, she was overtaken in the standings by stage winner Anna van der Breggen. However, as the Dutch rider cannot wear multiple jerseys at the same time, Alice will wear the polka-dot jersey again on Saturday during the final stage. The challenge will not be easy, with a summit finish atop Alto de l'Angliru, one of the toughest climbs in Europe.

One setback to note: Natalie Quinn, who crashed in the finale of Stage 5, did not continue the race on Friday.

Karolina Perekitko. “I’m not satisfied with my result today. It was raining heavily at the end of the race and it was scary. I did my best on the final climb after my teammates worked hard to put me in the best possible position. I’m thankful for that. There’s one last stage tomorrow and the course should suit me better, so I gonna do my best. In any case, the atmosphere within the team is super cool, we enjoy the race and the jersey a lot.”

Alice Coutinho. “It was really special to be able to wear the Queen of the Mountains jersey at the Vuelta, especially after spending several years with Spanish teams. Tomorrow, I’ll try to enjoy it again, even though it’s going to be a very hard day.”
